What’s the Deal with Barbell?

Hi. My name’s Jason, and I’m a coach. (The Barbell coach to be more specific) Sorry. That’s my attempt at an ‘AA introduction;’ I’ve been watching a lot of Elementary lately. If you’ve seen the show or are familiar with the ubiquitous 12-step program you will eventually see what I am getting at. The first point is that I am addicted to coaching. The second is that while I may be pretty good at what I do, not everyone knows how to talk to me at first. I am pretty sure I don’t have Sherlock’s personality problems, but… On several occasions I have been told that I am ‘intimidating’ or ‘hard to talk to.’ I have also been told that ‘back there’ (i.e., the rear of the building where all the platforms are and where the Barbell Strength and Power class is conducted) is a ‘scary place.’ All of which I understand. But that doesn’t change the fact that I find the idea of me as ‘intimidating’ endlessly hilarious. Once you get to know me, which doesn’t take terribly long, you realize that I am totally committed to the people that commit to training with me, that I love to laugh, and that I am not afraid of Taylor Swift. I will make fun of myself, and will make sure that what we are doing is loud, fast, and entertaining. So, let me cut to the chase.
